Folks, it's *Hot* right now! Great water conditions and the emergence of bug activity has the trout all stirred up. We spent the last two days on private water (i.e. chasing big fish) despite some early morning rain that soaked us on Saturday.

On Sunday it cooled down a bit both weather-wise and fishing-wise but still landed some really good fish in the 20 to 24" range. Did not check the water temp but I have to believe that the water was lower than last week after some sub-freezing weather and a little snow (and snow melt) in Atlanta. Air temp was 37 upon arrival and it was supposed to rise to 41 by 4:00pm.

Fished down toward the Hwy. 41 bridge, landed 3, and then walked up toward the I-75 Bridge. All toll, I went 7 for 8 with one other fish foul hooked. The one that was hooked and got away was about 18”. Clearly saw the fish as it came up near the surface. That's my "bigger" fish story of the day!

One fish on a wooly bugger; all the rest on a yellow X-TC fished deep. All Rainbows today.

The wind started to pick up about 4:30 and it started to get cold. Back at the parking lot by 5:00. Overall, a good outing.

The 'Hooch this past weekend

The weather in Atlanta was too great to pass up spending a little time on the water. I met a fishing buddy and fellow Atlanta Fly Fishing Club member, Adrian, at Paces Mill on Sunday. We hiked up to just below the I-75 bridge to fish some easily wadeable water. Before calling it a day in the middle of the afternoon (we started at noon), I went 15 for 17 in just a little under 3 hours of fishing. All were Rainbows except for one 12" Brown. In the mix, I landed one 18" and one 17" fish. Adrian also landed an 18 incher on an emerald green San Juan worm (go figure!). As for me, my hot fly was an X-TC. Yellow or Chartreuse worked best. However, I did land one fish on a black bugger. All-and-all, a good three hours on the water under near blue bird conditions. The water was running fairly low with just a hint of stain which is pretty normal for the DH section.

Welcome to the Spring Creek Anglers blog

Today, Spring Creek Anglers is entering a new era.
